Jyi Lawton

Jyi has undertaken tertiary study across a range of areas in Architectural Design, Law and Justice and Business. Jyi has a passion in art, as an award winning artist and the previous founder of Yimbana, a creative design and consultancy service, completing major projects with; leading global corporate firms, State Government, not for profit organisations and Queensland Rugby League as the co-designer of the first Indigenous Queensland Maroons jersey. Prior to joining Brisbane Indigenous Media Association, Jyi held previous operational and senior leadership positions across State and Federal Government in the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Department of Youth Justice, and Indigenous Business Australia leading IBA’s Business Program supporting Indigenous Entrepreneurs in business. He has spoken nationally on Indigenous Justice and Indigenous Entrepreneurship. Jyi is currently the CEO of BIMA a First Nations not-for-profit organisation based in Brisbane with a rich and proud 27 year history committed to providing appropriate media services promoting the cultural and economic aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in south-east Queensland and nationally. BIMA operates four multi-media divisions including: 98.9FM radio station, Triple A Training (RTO 30155), BIMA Projects and BIMA Vision.
